Financial Support for AFA Programs

Our Approach

AFA’s financial aid program is designed to support students who demonstrate both strong artistic promise and a clear commitment to their musical development.

We recognize that students come from a wide range of financial backgrounds, and we aim to make participation possible for those who are prepared to fully engage in the academy’s programs.

Financial support is available for students participating in the AFA Summer Festival, Atlanta Festival Virtuosi, and private music study at AFA-approved academies.

Merit-Based Scholarships

01.
Merit-based scholarships are available for:
  • The AFA Summer Festival
  • Private music study at AFA-approved academies and music schools
02.
All applicants to the Summer Festival are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships as part of the admissions process. Awards are determined based on:
  • Audition performance
  • Musical achievement
  • Artistic potential

No separate application is required. Scholarship decisions are communicated alongside admissions results.

Please note: Merit-based scholarships are not offered for Atlanta Festival Virtuosi.

Need-Based Financial Aid
In addition to merit-based scholarships, AFA offers need-based financial aid for families seeking additional support across all programs.
01.
How to Apply

Students requesting need-based financial aid must submit a financial aid application in addition to their program application.

We recommend submitting this request at the time of application to ensure full consideration.

02.
What We Consider

Financial aid decisions are based on a holistic review of each family’s circumstances, including:

  • Household income
  • Family size and dependents
  • Financial obligations and context
  • A brief explanation of financial need
03.
Supporting Documentation

To ensure a fair and consistent process, families may be asked to provide supporting financial documentation following an initial review.

Commonly requested documents may include:

  • Most recent federal tax return
  • W-2 forms or equivalent income documentation
  • Recent pay stubs

In certain circumstances, additional documentation may be requested, such as:

  • Documentation for separated or divorced households
  • Statements of income for self-employed families
  • Verification of unemployment or loss of income
  • Alternative income documentation for families without standard tax filings

All financial information is kept strictly confidential and is used solely for the purpose of determining financial aid eligibility.

04.
Apply

Financial aid awards are typically communicated alongside admissions decisions or shortly thereafter. Because available funding is limited, families are encouraged to apply early.
