To be eligible for the 2026-27 AFA Virtuosi ensemble:
• Applicants must be enrolled in 8th through 12th grade during the year of participation.
• Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to their instrument.
• This program is for strings: violin, viola, cello, and bass instruments only.
• Accepted students must commit to scheduled rehearsals and prepare assigned music in advance.
The Virtuosi is intended for students who are already performing at an advanced level and are ready to take on the demands of a chamber orchestra setting.
Our application will include:
Submit unedited, high-quality video recordings that showcase your musicianship and technical skill. Each video should be clear and well-lit, and all audio must be audible without distortion. Performances may include a pianist though it is not required. Videos must be recorded in the last 3-months.
Required repertoire:
• Solo piece: Record a 5 minute solo performance excerpt that best demonstrates your musicianship.
Upload your video in an unlisted YouTube Video format via the online application portal. Label each file clearly with your name and the repertoire performed.
The tuition for the 2026-27 AFA Virtuosi Season is $750.
Need-based financial aid is available for accepted students who complete the application process. Students should complete the Financial Aid application to be considered.
AFA Virtuosi rehearses six times across five weeks, with two rehearsals during concert week per concert cycle, typically on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm, unless otherwise stated. The Virtuosi has 2 concert cycles each season plus additional performances as opportunities arise. All rehearsals take place at the William Pu Music Academy, unless otherwise stated.
Each cycle also includes one to two sectionals, led by AFA artist-faculty, providing focused instruction and ensemble development within each instrument group.
Concert venues will vary across the Atlanta area, and performances will include a mix of conductor-led and conductor-less presentations, alongside a series of exciting soloists.
